Crocheting for Easter

Easter Egg crochet potholder

Do you enjoy crocheting decorations for holidays? I certainly do! I’ve got a brand new crochet pattern for an Easter Egg Potholder for you. This potholder is worked with 2 pieces: a front and a back for double thickness. Using worsted (#4) weight cotton yarn, it’ll keep your hands and fingers protected when removing a hot dish from the oven.

The potholder is worked in rows of single crochet with increases and decreases, as necessary, to form the egg shape. After crocheting 2 egg-shaped pieces, one round of single crochet is added to join the pieces together and to form the hanging loop at the top.

This pattern is easy enough for a beginner crocheter, since basic stitches are used. I’ve done a YouTube video for this pattern, as well, so you can follow along with me in the video and learn to read a crochet pattern while making this cute, useful potholder!

Here’s the pattern page to snag a copy of this pattern at a great price! Then you can crochet some potholders for your Easter celebration (with about 27 days until Easter!) or give one/some to a friend or family member.

I hope you enjoy this pattern and all your crochet projects!

Until next time!

Filet Heart Coaster CAL

crochet coaster

Are you familiar with CALs (crochet-a-longs)? CALs are organized groups of crocheters who often crochet the same project at the same time, kind of like a group of people crocheting together in person! However, many CALs are held through cyber-space instead of in person! Some CALs are held for a specified length of time and some are ongoing. But one thing that is common to all CALs is encouraging each other and helping each other with our projects. Questions are very common about what yarn/thread to use, the pattern and more. There’s lots of sharing going on in CALs, too. KALs are much like CALs, except KALs pertain to knit patterns, not crochet patterns.

If you read last week’s blog post, you’ll know that I started a Ravelry group as one of my New Year’s resolutions. In that new group, I’m holding my very first CAL (in time for Valentine’s Day!). Around 10 Ravelry group members will be crocheting my Filet Heart Coaster pattern, starting next week and running until Feb. 14. And I’ll be there to answer any questions that may arise while these participants are crocheting their coaster(s). This coaster is crocheted in the filet crochet technique and has 2 layers for added absorbency. If you would like to learn to do filet crochet, this is your chance! I’m discounting the cost of this pattern by 50% for CAL participants, too. So for less than $2, YOU can learn to do filet crochet!

I’ll be crocheting along with the other group members. I decided to make my coaster larger with some Omega Sinfonia yarn instead of using size 10 crochet thread. It’ll be interesting to see what size it turns out! I think it’ll be potholder/hot pad size, which will be nice!

If you’d like to join my Ravelry group and participate in this CAL, I’d love to have you join us! You can find the group on Ravelry here. Why not take the first step and learn your first crochet technique this year?

Happy crocheting,

Susan

FREE Baby Chicks Crochet Pattern

crochet chicks

Since Easter is coming, I’ve got another FREE Easter crochet pattern for you today. These chicks would work up in very little time (at least for one of the chicks, not a dozen of them)!

Baby Chicks in Eggshells
Baby Chicks in Eggshells

This is the “Baby Chicks in Eggshells” pattern by Lani Herschensohn of the Red Hot Fibers website. You can find this adorable pattern here. This is what Lani wrote about the pattern:

“This pattern is a great way to make a game for young children. Mix up the baby chicks and the shells and the child learns to match their colors. It helps with their fine motor skills as they match up the correct chick with the eggshell.”

The pattern doesn’t say anything about stuffing the chicks, but I think I’d stuff them with some polyester fiberfill to help them keep their shape.

I hope you enjoy this FREE crochet pattern.

Happy crocheting,

Susan

FREE Easter Egg Coaster Crochet Pattern

crochet Easter eggs

Here’s today’s FREE crochet pattern to help you get ready for Easter. It’s an Easter Egg Coaster that I think looks fabulous!

Easter Egg Coaster

This coaster is designed by Doni Speigle and the FREE pattern is available on her blog here. The coaster measures 4 1/4″ wide x 5 3/4″ high. It is made with worsted weight cotton yarn and a size G (4.25 mm) crochet hook. I love the details in this coaster. The wider white lines are crocheted in, while the smaller white lines are embroidered on after the crocheting is done. I think these coasters would be both fun and quick to make!

I hope you enjoy this FREE crochet pattern and have a blessed Easter with your family!

Happy crocheting,

Susan

FREE Easter Egg crochet pattern

crochet Easter eggs

Easter is right around the corner (1 month from tomorrow on April 5). To help celebrate Easter, why not crochet some Easters eggs during March? Here’s a great FREE pattern for basic crocheted Easter eggs from Red Heart yarns:

Easter Eggs
Easter Eggs

The FREE pattern can be found here. Since this pattern is from the Red Heart UK website, they’ve used a yarn that is available in the UK. But basically any DK weight 100% acrylic yarn, such as Anne Geddes Baby or Red Heart Baby TLC, could be substituted (or use a worsted weight yarn for larger Easter eggs). You could decorate these eggs however you like, with embroidery or stripes (or even puff paint!). You could even use a color-changing or multi-colored yarn for more visual appeal! Use pastel colors or bright colors, it’s your choice! The sky’s the limit when it comes to decorating Easter eggs!

Happy crocheting,

Susan
